On April 9, 2018, the Town of Falmouth Board of Selectmen approved a $477,815 Community Preservation Act (CPA) grant at the request of the Falmouth Recreation Department and the Falmouth Commodores to support much-needed improvements at Guv Fuller Field, the home field of the Commodores and the Falmouth High School Baseball team. The improvements will include the installation of an electronic wheel- chair lift within the newly renovated press box providing handicap access to the 2nd floor and enabling participation in the sports media internships as well as viewing of games from the new Crow’s Nest observation deck for those who are physically disabled. In addition, safety netting on steel poles will be installed along the home and visitors’ sides of the field to protect spectators (the CCBL contributed $13,000 towards the netting as a league-wide effort to improve safety at games). Other improvements include new state-of-the-art dugouts for home and visitor players and coaches, handicap accessible bleachers on the visitors’ side, a brick backstop behind home plate, chain-link fencing, and new walkways. All construction will be compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Recreation Department and the Commodores will share in the implementation of the improvements with assistance from the Department of Public Works. An estimated completion date is set for the Spring of 2019.
